Constructing Jokeri Light Rail progresses with cost awareness in mind

Jokeri Light Rail from Helsinki Itäkeskus to Espoo Keilaniemi will be the first part of the tramway network covering the whole Helsinki metropolitan area. The Jokeri Light Rail project includes the planning and implementation of the light rail route and the depot. Parts of municipal infrastructure and telecommunication network will also be renovated.

Jokeri Light Rail will be implemented by the alliance organization consisting of the cities of Helsinki and Espoo (as project owner), Ramboll Finland, Sitowise and Sweco (as designers), and YIT and NRC Group Finland (as constructors). The parties will design and construct the tramway together, sharing the risks and benefits related to the project’s implementation. Jokeri Light Rail is expected to start operation in the beginning of 2024.

Shared Cost Management service

PLM-Zone delivered the Cost Management service to the alliance organization. The service combines the cost information of the alliance parties. The shared cost information is utilized in the financial control of the project. The Cost Management service was taken into use in the beginning of the construction phase.

”We have planned construction tasks efficiently and at the same time cost consciously. Our jobsite management teams benefit from the shared and up-to-date cost information in their daily work. Updating cost forecast is a straightforward process. The forecast can be defined based on either the monetary value (euros) or the technical/physical readiness or both.”
